1. The Tampa City Council is exploring a rent stabilization ordinance amid spiking prices. Local residents are pleading for help and asking for action as their cost of living soars by hundreds and even thousands of dollars. The city’s legal department has warned the council that an ordinance stabilizing rent prices would likely be challenged in court. (WFLA)

2. A 26-year-old man has died following an accident Monday at Causeway Boulevard and 22nd Street. Police say the man was driving a Chevrolet Camaro east on Causeway Boulevard when he drifted off the road, struck a metal guardrail and then hit a cement wall. A passenger in the vehicle has survived and is in stable condition. (Tampa Patch)

3. University of South Florida interim President Rhea Law now wants to take on the position permanently, according to news reports. She has received high marks on her work so far on issues such as an on-campus football stadium and putting a stop to building on the USF Forest Preserve. Law is also a USF graduate who previously served as chair of the university’s board of trustees. (WUSF)

4. The Pretzelhaus, a pretzel-themed restaurant, has opened in Tampa’s Carrollwood neighborhood at 14351 North Dale Mabry Highway. The owners have 12 years of industry experience. Menu items include a Cuban sandwich-inspired pretzel, a giant one-pound soft pretzel, a pizza nugget platter, apple pie and cinnamon sugar pretzels and more. (That’s So Tampa)

5. The Gasparilla Music Festival returns to Curtis Hixon Park in downtown Tampa today through Sunday, February 27. Expect a weekend filled with music and local food. Headliners include Black Pumas, The Revivalists, and Trombone Shorty & Orleans Avenue. Some food options are Big Red BBQ, CafĂ© Hey, Ichicoro and Ella’s Folk Art CafĂ©. (Tampa Bay Times)
