BOC approves senior retirement community close to Jennings Mill – Oconee Enterprise

A dormant continuing care retirement community along Langford Drive and Langford Estates Place will begin construction next year. The Board of Commissioners this month granted approval of a rezone to increase both the acreage and scope of the development.

The total square footage of Vineyard Athens Senior Community will be 346,088 square feet.

Components include an assisted living and memory care building complex with 75 one- or two-bedroom units; a four-story independent living complex with 126 units that would be a mix of studio, one-bedroom and two-bedroom; 48 villa cottages whose units are between 1,450 and 1,880 square feet; a nature preserve and a living health center.

Vineyard Athens Senior Community “will incorporate resort-style amenities, social activities, concierge services and housing to provide residents a care-free, fulfilled lifestyle with options of independence and as needed,” according to a project narrative. “The overall community will offer the occupants the opportunity to maintain their independence as long as possible, while having the options for services as they want or need them. The community will provide daily meals, housekeeping, laundry services, security, staffed activities, maintenance services and transportation services.”

Construction on the campus is expected to be done by December 2023.
