Authorities rescued two hikers from a fast-growing wildfire near Millerton Lake on Wednesday.
The Gold Fire is burning off Sky Harbor Road near the South Finegold Picnic Area on the south side of the lake in Fresno County. As of 2:30 p.m., the wildland fire had scorched 35 acres and was growing.
A Fresno County Sheriff’s helicopter airlifted two hikers from the fire’s path. The two had been removed from the hill by 3:00 p.m. and neither required medical attention, a Cal Fire Fresno Unit spokesperson said.
Additional fire engine crews and air tankers were called to the fire, which grew from 5 to 35 acres in just under an hour.
The fire is currently surrounded on three sides by the lake, which could help firefighters contain and manage the blaze.
This is a developing story.
