Burnt body found at Gold Coast as police quiz second man with burns – ABC News
One man is dead and another is in hospital with burns after a fire on the Gold Coast overnight.
A man’s burnt body was found at a Coomera address with the Queensland Fire and Emergency Service called about 11pm in response to a triple-O call from neighbours who heard a smoke alarm.
They found a man’s body inside and police are treating the death as suspicious.
Investigations are underway this morning with police setting up a crime scene at the Leichhardt Street address.
Officers are investigating whether the fire is linked to a separate incident on Brisbane’s Bayside overnight, after another man had to be taken to hospital with burns to his body.
Road blocked off
According to the Queensland Ambulance Service, the second man, 38, was transported from a Sheldon property to the Royal Brisbane and Women’s Hospital in a stable condition.
He suffered burns to his face and limbs “that were reportedly sustained at another location”.
The man is assisting police with their enquiries.
It’s understood the Coomera property wasn’t locked when emergency services arrived on scene and that the man assisting police in Brisbane was allegedly injured on the Gold Coast.
The two men are known to each other.
Officers are awaiting results of an autopsy to determine the deceased man’s cause of death and confirm his identity.
Authorities have blocked off the road in the northern Gold Coast residential area, with a heavy presence of police and fire investigators at the scene, including the mobile forensic facility.
The fire was contained within the building last overnight.
