Just in time for St. Patrick’s Day local author Kayla Friend is helping youngsters find the pot of gold at the end of the rainbow.
Friend has written a new children’s book, “What Leprechaun’s DON’T Want You to Know!” She will be hosting a book signing Wednesday, March 16, from 4 to 6 p.m. at Heaven’s Cove, 201 Ash St., with readings at 4:30 and 5:15 p.m. Friend will also be doing a book reading at Sterling Public Library on Thursday, March 17, at 4 p.m.
“I’ve always loved children’s books, I think they bring out the wonder in all of us that we sometimes forget when we grow older,” she said. “They make it seem like a magical world.”
This is the second children’s book that Friend has written. Her first book, “Follow Your Wings,” was based on friendship. She was thinking about how grateful she was for one of her friends and was inspired to write a book about how to be a great friend.
For her latest book, she drew inspiration from her eight-year-old niece, who loves all things leprechauns. Always on the lookout for one, every year she and her brother make sure to have a leprechaun hunt and traps set up a week before St. Patrick’s Day.
“They haven’t caught one yet, but I think they’re close!” Friend said with a laugh.
Described as a whimsical and enchanting tale of leprechauns and their pots of gold, her new book explores how to follow a leprechaun to the end of a rainbow and find the pot of gold and shares secrets for those hoping to find their own pot of gold.
Friend has always loved writing, ever since she was little, and has hopes of someday writing a novel, but hasn’t come up with the right idea for one yet. For now, she’ll stick to writing children’s books.
For those unable to attend her book signing, “What Leprechaun’s DON’T’ Want You to Know!” is available online at Amazon, Barnes and Noble and iTunes. Copies are also available at Heaven’s Cove.
