Just before 10 a.m. on Saturday, a three-alarm fire broke out at the Wesley Village Retirement Community on Northwest 12th Street.

The fire started on the first floor in a corner apartment. Soon, smoke filled all four floors of the apartment and set off the sprinkler system.Senior residents were evacuated outside while fire crews put out the active fire.“That’s one thing that we were concerned with the facility such as this being a retirement community and a lot of vulnerable people in that building. I’m on the second floor and it happened on the first floor. I didn’t want the elevator to stop. This time was for real, but it’s not too bad I don’t think,” said Battalion Chief Benny Fulkerson of the Oklahoma City Fire Department.Fire crews told KOCO 5 that a good portion of the first floor has water damage that is two to three inches deep in some units. Luckily many of the units were vacant.KOCO 5 was told that residents have been displaced from the damage but thankfully, there were no reported injuries. The sleet gave firefighters an extra challenge, having to carefully help residents out of the building and onto an EMBARK bus to keep warm.
