Finance Minister defends using money from the Covid Respond Fund – Newstalk ZB

The Finance Minister has defended the Government’s Covid-19 Response Fund being used for a raft of different projects.

The response and recovery fund was set up in May last year for emergency response to the pandemic and supporting sectors who need it.

That includes events like the Olympics and Wilding Conifer Control Programme getting their share of the cash from it.

Grant Robertson told Heather du Plessis-Allan there’s a broad range of reasons why the money could be handed out, and they’re confident it’s being used well.

“If you want to take the Olympics as one of the examples, there was a significant cost on the New Zealand Olympic Committee from the delay of the Olympics from 2020 to 2021.”
