Fire destroys Silver Lake Street garage in Athol, claims family pet – Athol Daily News

ATHOL – Fire destroyed a garage at 162 Silver Lake Street late Sunday night. The fire was first reported at 11:11 p.m.

Athol Fire Chief Joseph Guarnera said Engine 1 and Ladder 1 were dispatched to the scene, where crews found heavy fire coming from the structure.

A first alarm was immediately rung summoning mutual aid. Units from Orange, Phillipston, and Templeton responded to the blaze, while crews from Barre and Royalston covered the Uptown fire station.

The flames were extinguished shortly after 1 a.m. Monday morning. No residents or firefighters were injured but a dog did perish in the fire.

Guarnera gave no dollar estimate on the amount of damage, adding that the cause remains under investigation.

The Athol Assessor’s Office lists the owner of the property as Mass. Housing and Finance Agency located at 1 Beacon Street in Boston.
