Garden View Assisted Living residents enjoy Mardi Gras parade – The Daily Iberian

Garden View Assisted Living residents were thrilled to have a Mardi Gras parade right outside of their doorstep as staff and volunteers threw a special event for the community Monday afternoon.

Residents of the assisted living facility sat underneath the entryway of the facility on Darby Street as vehicles and trailers lined up down the road to toss beads and other items in celebration of the Mardi Gras season.

“It’s a really great event and the weather was perfect for it,” Executive Director Lauren Barras said at the event.

Unlike other parades thrown throughout Acadiana for Mardi Gras, the small event allowed the friends, family and volunteers riding the parade to stop and chat to the residents of Garden View while they collected their goodies from the parade.

The parade’s royalty this year includes King Judge Gerard Wattigny, Queen Gertrude Segura, Prince Pierre Larroque and Princess Helen “Joan” Renfroe, according to the assisted living community’s Facebook page.

The parade served as a preface for the many bigger parades for Mardi Gras day. In the Teche Area, parades are scheduled in Franklin and Loreauville along with other events happening throughout Acadiana.
