Gold Cross deals with impacts from COVID-19 Omicron variant – WFXG
AUGUSTA, Ga. (WFXG) – Omicron is now the most dominant COVID-19 variant, and it’s not only putting stress on businesses, restaurants, and travel but healthcare workers as well.
The recent spread of Omicron is sending people home and making it harder for businesses and healthcare to provide their services. Michael Meyers with Gold Cross says the ambulance company is seeing the first-hand impact of COVID-19 on its employees.
“This crisis is affecting everything,” he says.
Meyers says people calling out sick from COVID-19 are causing staffing shortages at hospitals, healthcare facilities, and ambulance companies, specifically Gold Cross. “This pandemic is crippling the entire healthcare community,” he says.
The ripple effect is what Meyers says they’re battling every day. One way they’re hoping to make the situation better is by adding new jobs, and figuring out how they can increase the workforce.
“The latest thing is our EMTR program that we have implemented to make sure that we can bring in people to be the next level of care for us,” says Meyers. For more information on how to get involved in that, you can click here to send an email.
“Regardless of what’s going on, I like to try to tell people, do things that are going to make you stay safe or keep you healthy,” he says. “Wash your hands, watch your distance, wear a mask. If you’re inside a building, put a mask on.”
