MARSHALL, Ill. (WTWO/WAWV) — Students from Marshall High School were surprised by a guest speaker Thursday who talked about setting life goals.

World class runner and gold medal winner for the USA track and field team Eddie Slowikowski was the 169th American to run a mile in under 4 minutes. He spoke with students to talk about his book called “The Four Minute Formula” about the seven steps to creating the best life for yourself.

Slowikowski said that having a game plan is what helps you keep moving forward.

“Our job is just do the best we can and let the chips fall where they may while we’re striving to be the best versions of ourselves that we can be,” Slowikowski said. “You never know what’s going to happen along the way. So, it’s not really about the destinations. It’s about the journey.”

Slowikowski has been a guest speaker for almost 30 years and said he believes this is what he was meant to do.
