James M. McClanahan
James M. McClanahan, age 92, of Hamilton, NJ, died on Tuesday, January 18, 2022, at Capitol Health Regional Medical Center. For the past few years, he had been living at Rose Hill Assisted Living, very close to most of his immediate family.
James was born and raised in Louisiana, where various members of his family still live. After serving in the US Navy out of Newport Rhode Island, he returned to Louisiana with his wife, Dorothy, to complete his college education at Southwestern Louisiana Institute. He completed his bachelor’s degree in Mechanical and Electrical Engineering, and accepted work in Fort Worth, Texas. After relocating a few times, the family moved to New Jersey, where he managed the Facility Engineering and Environmental Test Lab at RCA/Martin Marietta/GE, in Hightstown. He was involved in testing for the space program.
James was a member of Our Lady of Sorrows-St. Anthony Parish, and in his younger days, was very active in parish life. He served as President of the Holy Name Society, and was active in St. Vincent DePaul, the Parish Carnival, and the Right to Life. He was a former Deacon of the parish. Professionally, he was a member of IEEE, and was published in their journal.
James was predeceased by his wife, Dorothy, his second wife, Barbara, his sisters, Lelia Watson and Nelda Mains, and his brother, Edwin McClanahan; he is survived by his daughters, Linda McClanahan, Lelia Novak and her husband, Joseph and Martha Merin and her husband, Jeffrey; his son, Matthew McClanahan and his spouse, Ed McCarthy; his grandchildren, Marcus D’Amelio and his wife, Lizette, Alissa Beers and her husband, Anthony, Brian McKinney and his wife, Caitlin and Michael McKinney; and his 5 great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his stepsons, Peter, Paul, Brian and Barry Nolan and their families; and various family members still in Louisiana and Rhode Island.
Visitation for family and friends will be held on Tuesday, January 25, 2022, from 9:45 a.m. until 10:45 a.m. at St. Anthony’s RC Church, 626 S. Olden Ave, Hamilton, NJ 08629, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial celebrated at 11:00 a.m. at the church.

Masks are recommended for all attendees at the visitation and funeral mass of James.
