Kendal Corporation to move to University of Delaware FinTech building – Newark Post

The Kendal Corporation announced recently that it will move its headquarters to the new FinTech building on the University of Delaware’s STAR Campus.

The corporation serves as the supporting organization for the Kendal System, which operates 12 senior-living communities across nine states. The company’s current headquarters is in Kennett Square, Pa.

CEO Sean Kelly said the corporation already has a relationship with another STAR Campus organization, the Osher Lifelong Learning Institute. It also hopes to develop partnerships with the College of Health Sciences, the School of Public Policy and Administration, the School of Nursing and other aspects of the University of Delaware that can provide services to Kendal and help recruit more young graduates to the senior-living field.

“There’s an incredible movement in our field to bring greater awareness about what the sector can provide in the way of a professional career,” Kelly said.

Kelly said nursing students can complete their clinicals at Kendal facilities.

“We have seen an incredible intersection between an appreciation for acute care nursing in a hospital setting and long term care nursing in a retirement community or continuing care retirement community or nursing home setting,” Kelly said. “We’re doing a lot of the same things, staving off a lot of the same problems, such as disease control.”

Kelly looks forward to working with the technological research done in the STAR campus. The current labor shortage, which Kelly said will continue to be a long-term problem because of the aging demographics of the United States, means that the company is interested in using technology to reduce the amount of human labor involved in the senior-care.

The first Kendal Community was founded in 1973. The company is based around Quaker ideals.

“We are built from those values and hold them dear,” Kelly said.

The company plans to move to the FinTech building this summer. Approximately 40 people work out of the Kendal Corporation headquarters, though many employees will work in a hybrid model, spending time at home and the office.

Slated to open early this year, the six-story FinTech will house a mix of university and private tenants, including Delaware Technology Park and a cybersecurity leadership center. Grain Craft Bar + Kitchen will open a restaurant and bar on the first floor.
