Large Senior Housing Complex Coming To Bergen County – Patch.com
HACKENSACK, NJ — One of the largest senior housing complexes is set for construction in Bergen County, according to county officials.
The Bergen County Board of County Commissioners passed a resolution on Feb. 2 approving the disbursement of $750,000 in Home Investment Partnership Grant program funds. The Bergen County Division of Community Development along with other funding sources from the NJ Housing and Mortgage Finance Agency, the Federal Home Loan Bank of New York, and state tax credits incentivize the development of senior low-income housing.
“One of the largest senior housing complexes constructed in over a decade is coming to Bergen County,” said Bergen County Commissioner Germaine Ortiz in a statement. “We know there is a need for senior housing by the sheer amount of calls and inquiries we receive on a daily basis. Bergen County is proud to make sure senior citizens receive affordable and accessible housing where they can age in place, near their loved ones.”

With much need for low-income senior housing, the project will consist of 85 units, including for those who require supportive services such as anyone with development disabilities or who use mental health services. There will be 64 one bedroom units and 21 two bedroom units.
The building will be three stories with an attached parking lot, lobby, community room, walkable paths and gardens, outdoor seating areas and an on-site superintendent.

“The senior population is the fastest growing age group in our community, and being able to offer them quality, affordable housing right here is a blessing,” said Mayor Mauro Raguseo in the press release. “Many of our seniors are on a fixed income and need to downsize. This will give many of our long time resident seniors the ability to remain in our community during their golden years. We have had this goal for years, and I’m excited that our vision will soon become a reality.”
The building is projected to be completed by Spring 2023 with full occupancy by Fall 2023. There will be further details on when applications open at a later date. Interested residents are encouraged to follow the news for more information.
