AUSTINTOWN — Mary Louise “Peppy” Patuto, 86, passed away Tuesday, Sept. 28, 2021, at Briarfield at Ashley Circle Nursing Home, following a courageous battle with cancer and COVID-19.

She was born July 4, 1935, in Youngstown, the eldest daughter of the late Rose Capezio D’Eramo and Chester D’Eramo of Youngstown.

Mary Louise was a lifelong resident of the Youngstown area, graduating from Chaney High School in 1953. Following her graduation, she met her late husband Edward at a mother-daughter dinner at St. Anthony of Padua Church. They married July 18, 1959, and were getting ready to celebrate their 59th anniversary before his passing June 5, 2018.

She was the matriarch of her family and her selflessness shined through her endless dedication to them. She loved spending time with family and friends, where they were always welcome and frequently gathered at her home. Cooking was her labor of love, regularly preparing special Italian meals and baked goods for everyone to enjoy. She was known for her cheerful and peppy energy, as well as her fearless personality. She was a member of St. Joseph Parish in Austintown and a longtime volunteer at St. Christine School, where she spent countless hours assisting the teachers and nuns.

She will be sadly missed by her family and friends.

Mary Louise is survived by her two sons, Paul (Bonnie) of Salem, Va., and Edward (David Hernandez) of Los Angeles, Calif.; and two grandchildren, Kristen (Joseph Archie) of Philadelphia, Pa., and Anthony Patuto of Salem, Va. She is also survived by her two sisters, Paula Esposito (James) of Austintown and Antoinette DeGenova (Thomas) of Youngstown; and was preceded in death by her older brother, James, who died at birth.

A Mass will be held at St. Joseph Parish in Austintown, Monday, Oct. 4, 2021, at 11 a.m. Masks and social distancing will be required.

The family would like to give special thanks to Heritage Manor Nursing Home, Victoria House Assisted Living, Briarfield at Ashley Circle Nursing Home and Buckeye Hospice for the wonderful care given to Mary Louise the past few years.
