Massive residential and commercial development proposed for town of Kittery
Dennett Road in Kittery is situated near Interstate 95 and Route 236. There are 82 acres included in a development that includes 900 residential units, within 28 buildings and more than 1,000 parking spaces. The project applicant is identified in documents as 98 Dennett Road LLC and also includes a brewery and restaurant, a day care center, an assisted living facility and medical offices.Kittery’s planning director Adam Causey said the planning board will take a look at the elaborate proposal to see if it’s a good fit for the town.”The headline number is pretty large, but it’s a big piece of property, too,” Causey said. “We’ll have to do that analysis to see exactly what it means for the town and again the planning board is the one that ultimately makes that decision of is this best for the town.”The planning board is expected to amend current zoning which would require the developers to include affordable units within their plan. It is hoped that the new housing will fill the need of people searching for affordable housing in a desirable area in Southern Maine.”Any housing that we get we would hope that it would mean that people that maybe work in Kittery, can live in Kittery too,” Causey said.Developers were expected to present the project detail to the Kittery planning board on Thursday.
