Myles Wins Silver Bracket at North Country Open – Saint John’s University Athletics
COLLEGEVILLE, Minn. – Saint John’s wrestling hosted its annual North Country Open on Sunday, Jan. 23, in Sexton Arena.
The tournament consisted of 183 wrestlers, across all divisions of collegiate wrestling, on six mats.
Freshman D.J. Myles (Dayton, Minn./Champlin Park) led eight Johnnies in the silver bracket by taking the title at 197 pounds with a 3-0 record. He started the day with a 7-5 decision and won the semifinal with a first-period pin. Myles pinned classmate Tommy Gilmore (Otsego, Minn./Rogers) 30 second into the second period for the first-place finish and improve his record to 9-7 this season.
Gilmore received a first-round bye and earned his first collegiate win via fall in the semifinal.
The Johnnies return to action with a pair of competitions Friday-Saturday, Feb. 4-5, at Wisconsin-Eau Claire. SJU faces the Blugolds for a 7 p.m. dual on Friday, followed by UWEC’s Don Parker Open at 10 a.m. Saturday.
