No updates come for many nursing homes | News, Sports, Jobs – Warren Tribune Chronicle
YOUNGSTOWN — The number of current cases of COVID-19 apparently remains low in nursing homes and assisted-living facilities in the Mahoning Valley, but the Ohio Department of Health did not update its numbers for many Mahoning County facilities this week.
As COVID-19 wanes in Ohio and elsewhere, just one Mahoning County assisted-living facility with updated numbers appears to have more than a couple of current COVID-19 cases.
Woodlands Assisted Living in Poland has five patient cases and one staff case. The facility had eight patient and no staff cases last week. An attempt to reach the facility Thursday to confirm the numbers was not successful.
No updated numbers for any other Mahoning, Trumbull or Columbiana facility indicated more than a couple of cases. Two Trumbull County facilities do list more than a couple of COVID-19 cases, but the numbers were not updated from last week.
One number the ODH did update this week is the total number of cases among nursing homes and assisted-living facilities statewide. It shows patient cases dropping from 1,380 last week to 915 this week and staff cases dropped from 1,303 cases last week to 697 this week. However, because so many numbers have not been updated, it is assumed the number of cases statewide is lower than that.
The state updated the number of deaths associated with area nursing homes and assisted-living facilities, showing Mahoning County’s number rising from 303 to 307, Trumbull County’s number rising from 184 to 188 and Columbiana County’s number rising from 89 to 90.
The total number of cases in Ohio prisons this week dropped to seven staff and 10 inmate cases. There were 12 staff cases last week and 18 inmate cases last week.
The area’s three prisons — the private Northeast Ohio Correctional Center in Youngstown, the Ohio State Penitentiary in Youngstown and Trumbull Correctional Institution in Leavittsburg — had no staff or inmate cases this week, the same as last week.
