An Oklahoma City assisted living center is seeking donations for its residents over the holidays.With over 100 residents living at the John H. Johnson Living Center, many don’t have any family. A small donation or gift can help the residents feel special for the holidays.The seniors are getting ready for presents under the tree. “Because it is low income, they don’t all have family, or they don’t have the means to get things for Christmas,” Sonya Winter said.The center is looking for slippers, robes, blankets, scarves, socks and pajamas. Since many spend all day at the center, resident Katherine Foster says that arts and crafts supplies are a big deal.”I hold all the arts and craft classes so art stuff. You can do paint, paintbrushes, coloring pencils, things like that,” Foster said.One small gift can make a world of difference.”It still makes them feel like they’re people, they’re important. Just because they’re not out with a family or celebrating with people, at least someone is thinking about them,” Winter said.All donations can be dropped off at 1213 NW 122nd St. in Oklahoma City.”It’s good to have somebody out there in the community that cares enough about them to say, ‘hey, yeah, we will help you out,'” Foster said.
