Video clip shows shooter before 9 officers hurt, mom killed

PHOENIX (AP) — Phoenix police on Thursday released 26 seconds of body camera footage of last week’s ambush and barricade situation that left five patrol officers shot and four others injured by shrapnel or ricochets.

The brief but graphic footageshowed a police officer walking toward the front door of a home where a woman reportedly had been shot around 2 a.m. last Friday. The woman later died.

S. Korea keeps crowd limits as omicron causes 25-fold spike

SEOUL, South Korea (AP) — South Korea will extend restaurant dining hours but maintain a six-person limit on private social gatherings as it wrestles with a massive coronavirus wave driven by the highly infectious omicron variant.

The 109,831 new cases reported on Friday was another record and about a 25-fold increase from the levels seen in mid-January, when omicron became the country’s dominant strain. The more than 516,000 infections counted in the past seven days alone raised South Korea’s caseload to over 1.75 million.

Trump meets with Alabama GOP Senate candidate

(The Hill) – Donald Trump met with Alabama Republican Senate candidate Katie Boyd Britt on Tuesday as Rep. Mo Brooks (R-Ala.), the former president’s endorsed contender in the race, struggles to gain traction. 

The meeting, which took place at Trump’s Mar-a-Lago resort and was confirmed to The Hill by two sources familiar with the matter, comes as Britt, a former top staffer for retiring Sen. Richard Shelby (R-Ala.), has held consistent fundraising advantages over Brooks, who reshuffled his campaign staff in December. Polling has also shown a competitive race.
