RH Line calls for Wednesday, Jan. 12, 2021 – Loveland Reporter-Herald
Clearing snow
I’m reading the Reporter-Herald Monday edition about when the show falls how they clean the school grounds. I guess I’m just curious. I live in senior housing, and the parking lot is never cleared. The last snow, I fell in it. So what’s the deal here? I’m more or less curious why they clean the school grounds and senior housing is not cleaned.
Angel in disguise
There’s way too much bad news, so I’m calling to report a wonderful event that happened to me. I’m an in-home caregiver, and on Friday morning when I arrived at my destination I got stuck in all the snow along the curb where I needed to park. I was at a point of needing help when a personal truck with a snowplow just happened by. He saw me and came directly to me. I asked him if he could help me, and he said certainly. He asked me where I needed to park and he said he would pull me out and clean the curb for me to park. He was a young man, very pleasant and kind. He did all this and didn’t wait for me to pay him or even thank him. In an instant, he was gone just like he came. I think he was an angel in disguise.
Dry state
If you haven’t noticed, there are lot of lakes, reservoir, canals and ditches in Colorado. It’s because we’re a dry state and we need storage of water for people and crops. It’s always been dry. If the press is talking about high winds, they’re probably talking about Boulder.
Sonia Sotomayor
I was appalled in Tuesday morning’s paper that the Reporter-Herald would publish a comment in the RH Line from a caller who questioned Supreme Court Justice Sonia Sotomayor’s qualities and (made) it a racist issue because she misquoted a statistic. Unless the caller has the education, the experience and the intelligence to be on the Supreme Court, they shouldn’t be throwing stones and making racist comments.
I’m calling in regard to the RH Lline (call) “Wise Latina.” The caller was referring to Supreme Court Justice Sonia Sotomayor, and I was wondering, just questioning, why he or she needed to refer to Ms. Sonya Sotomayor’s heritage. What does that have to do with anything? She has a Supreme Court Justice. She’s an American. It has nothing to do with her heritage. I’m Scandinavian, and I don’t believe anybody refers to me as the Scandinavian person. So I’m just curious why this person referred that way to a Latina.
Editor’s note: The caller was referencing Sotomayor’s statement in which she suggested that a “wise Latina” judge would often make better decisions that a white man. She later admitted that it was a poor choice of words.
Noncitizen vote
I’m calling about the screen work where a law was … passed allowing over 800,000 noncitizens to vote. My concern is that this wasn’t covered by local media, newspaper, or TV. It’s … undermining what America was built upon. I believe only citizens should be able to vote.
