PHOENIX, Ariz. – Illinois women’s golf sophomore Isabel Sy finished in a tie for sixth place at the Joanne Winter Arizona Silver Belle Championship hosted at the Briarwood Country Club on December 28-30. Sy was 2-under in the three-day tournament, highlighted by a six-under 66 in the second round.
Sy was just eight strokes of tournament champion Leigh Chien, who finished at 10-under with a 206 score. Sy recorded 10 birdies in her three rounds, including six during the second day.
Founded in 1971 by Joanne Winter, LPGA, the Joanne Winter Arizona Silver Belle Championship was to encourage competition in golf for young women amateur golfers under the age of 24. Today, it is nationally recognized and included in the ranking of amateur players by World Amateur Golf, Golfweek, Golf Stat, Junior Golf Scoreboard and AJGA. This tournament qualifies for AJGA Performance Based Entry.
Sy and the Illini return to action for the spring season at the Columbia Classic on February 13-14 in Melbourne, Fla.
