Tunkhannock’s Prebola grabs state spear silver – Pennsylvania News Today

Shippensburg-Tancanock’s Junior Matthew Prebora competed in the PIAA Class 3A Athletics Championships for the title as the top seed for javelin throw.
Prebola was short of one spot and won the silver medal with a throw of 195-5.
When he finished the match on Saturday in windy and cool conditions, Prebora just accepted that he had done his best and lost to a good opponent.
Nazareth’s 11th District Champion, Colin Burkhart, won with a throw of 208-6.
“He’s a great pitcher and a great competitor,” Prebola said.
Temperatures in Shippensburg never exceeded 51 degrees Celsius, and winds exceeded 16 mph throughout the day. It only rained at the beginning and end of the nearly eight-hour tournament, but it was in good condition to move the high jump and pole vault indoors.
Javelin does not have such an option.
“I was a little disappointed, but I wasn’t too angry,” Prebola said. “At the end of the day, in all the weather, I poured everything I had and that was it.”
Prebola was the only player in District 2 to make it into the Top 8 at the Men’s Event on Saturday. The top eight will earn state medals and team points.
Prebora threw more than 215 feet in all six tries at the Second District Championship. “I’ll bring what I threw today.
The next best performance after the men at the Wyoming Valley Conference was at an indoor event, with Le’Jean Berry from the Wilkes-Barre area tying 11th in the high jump.
The only WVC athlete to finish in the upper half of the competitive Class 3A field was Cole Gorham in the Wyoming Valley West.
