United Way is partnering with local healthcare providers for Senior Wellness Fair – The Bristol Press

BRISTOL – United Way of West Central Connecticut is partnering with local healthcare providers to offer a Senior Wellness Fair June 23 at the Bristol Senior Center and July 20 at the Plainville Senior Center.

Judi Ann Lausier, resource development coordinator with the United Way of West Central Connecticut, said that the United Way has offered similar events for nearly 10 years but, in the past, it was more like a conference with speakers. This time, people will be able to go from booth to booth in what she described as an “interactive experience.”

Each fair will have approximately 20 vendors who will provide seniors with health screenings and a variety of useful information

“There will be a variety of screenings like blood pressure and cholesterol,” she said.

Diana Gonzalez, of CT Ears LLC, which recently moved into the same building as United Way, will also provide hearing tests. Lausier said that she does a lot of work with the local school board.

“We will also have assisted living facilities, and home care agencies like Visiting Angels,” said Lausier. “There will be representatives from banking institutions like Thomaston Savings Bank and SoVita Chiropractic Center of Bristol will be doing evaluations.”

Bagged lunches will be provided to each person who registers, courtesy of Sheriden Woods Healthcare Center and Countryside Manor of Bristol.

In addition, when people register, they will be given a link for how to view the Central Connecticut Chambers of Commerce’s “Wellness Wednesday” program – a Dementia Friends presentation with Lynn Litwinczyk from Bristol Health. The program will be held virtually June 23 from noon to 1:15 p.m. All attendees will receive a “Dementia Friends” certificate.

“This program is designed to create awareness in the community about how to approach or work with someone suffering dementia or Alzheimer’s disease should you come across them in the community,” said Lausier.

Nancy Micloskey, community impact coordinator with United Way of West Central Connecticut, said that the Senior Wellness Fair was a monthly project of the SALT (Seniors And Law Enforcement Together) council. She added that the event is likely the first in-person event that the senior centers will be offering this year.

“The mission of the council is to promote health, safety and wellness in the senior community we serve,” she said. “It is also part of a larger, regional TRIAD. The TRIAD is comprised of law enforcement, senior community members and community partners. Its focus is on providing health, safety, fraud prevention and financial security information. There will be vendors at the Senior Wellness Fair to represent every one of these aspects. The fair is open to all communities.”

TRIAD sponsors include Barnes Group, Inc., Bristol Health, ClearCaptions and Thomaston Savings Bank.
